The operation involved FBI operatives setting up a fake company called Abdul Enterprises: a front to record the nefarious transactions between the fictional Sheik Kraim Abdul Rahman and US government officials. Abscam (a diminutive for "Abdul scam") was the first wide-scale attempt to uncover corruption in the upper echelons of government, and led to the conviction of a number of high-ranking officials.
