And yet, though it occasionally drifts into bumptiousness, there’s something winning about Goss’s candour. Anyway, back to his Vegas routine. “I like to meditate before a show. I put in a 20-minute meditation,” he tells me. “Then I jump in the steam room, try and open up my lungs, do my breathing exercises, and try and get this engine started.” Then – still in his suite – he’s helped on with his jacket, “do[es] a prayer”, then goes down to the club, where he and his 17-strong cast gather in a circle and “say the word of the night. I can’t guarantee that it’s profound,” he smiles. “It’s usually pretty foul and makes us laugh and gets us ready for the show. And then, showtime.”
