That detail stays with you and you give it to one of your characters, but the rest of them comes from elsewhere – usually from your own head. It’s those details you need to make a habit of noticing all the time, until you don’t know that you are doing so. Many writers are born with the facility. The details won’t all be used, and you may remember some from many years ago. It doesn’t matter. Your job is to notice and then store it all away. Mine have a special compartment in my head, but a notebook is just as good.
