This region almost destroyed its reputation over a couple of decades by producing oceans of thin, bubble-gum-scented beaujolais nouveau and inferior beaujolais villages but there has been a resurgence of interest in its better wines, particularly those from the 10 named crus in the north. Many of these have superb small (boutique, if you like: which I prefer to the overused artisan but neither is quite right) producers turning out quality wines that you would pay much more if they were graced with a more f棚ted name.
